From a Family of Antique Collectors... to an Antique-style Cultural Destination

OUR STORY

“Old things should be thrown away… many people believe so. In this modern society, we move at such a fast pace, throwing away old things without hesitation thus creating a whole bunch of trash. Without us knowing, important history with sentimental value, stories and memories, cultures and traditions that once were so meaningful are gradually disappearing as time goes by.” “As collectors, we like to preserve items of importance and as they can tell so many stories. We want the younger generations to know who Mon people are, how grandma used to weave before the emergence the industrial revolution, how our great-grandpa spent days to extract milk from a coconut so that the family could enjoy making coconut dessert together. Small examples like these help paint yesterday’s picture today.”

ANTIQUES: IF WE KNOW HOW TO PRESERVE THEM AND SEE THE VALUE IN THEM, THEY ARE NOT ONLY STAYING WITH US, BUT WILL ALSO HELP US TELL STORIES FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.

At The Antique Riverside

Thousands of wooden collections were turned into antique houses to reflect the three seamlessly combined cultures of Thai, Chinese, and Mon along the Mae Klong River. Then everything was tied together with countless antique items. Collecting can ground you in the present while giving you a sense of the past. We are looking forward to collecting a lot of wonderful memories with you, our dear guests 🙂

OUR GOALS

Our goals are to preserve and promote local cultures and traditions (especially the disappearing the culture of the Mon people) while providing jobs and increasing the standard of living of the local community.

To achieve our goals,

we engage closely with the local community by offering long-term employment opportunities and by buying locally made products to support the local economy. We want to grow strongly along side our community.

Who are the Mon?

Although the ancient Mon people shaped the region of Southeast Asia very early on, many of their traditions have been lost throughout history. Dating back over 1000 years, this old civilization once held powerful positions culturally and politically in the region. Throughout history and still today, the Mon people have faced hardship and cruelty from others. However, they are not completely gone, as the influence of the Mon people remains in Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos.
Our stay was amazing. Just perfect. Already planning our next trip back!
